Here at the Laser Canter we can meet you with some of our qualified assistants, and you will receive detailed information on laser corrections done in the Burgas Eye Hospital.

Step 2: Following the assessment review for laser correction suitability.

ТThis review is a critical part of the laser correction process - it can be said that the diagnostics is half the laser treatment. Therefore, your visit to our eye specialist will continue for about 2 hours.

Following the assessment review the eye specialist would have documented the last tiny detail relevant to your vision, so we would know that you are (or are not) suitable candidate for laser vision correction. Based on the results of the review, as well as your individual needs related to your daily activities and lifestyle, the eye specialist performing the examination will determine the most appropriate laser correction method. For the final conclusion to be made, you need to go through at least 10 eye examinations, namely:

  • - refractometry
  • - keratometry
  • - tonometry
  • - biomicroscopy
  • - examination of visual acuity with phoropter
  • - pachymetry
  • - accommodative function examination
  • - anterior optical coherence tomography (3D eye scanner)
  • - posterior optical coherence tomography (3D eye scanner)
  • - corneal topography
  • - B-ultrasound (if necessary)
  • - ultrasound biometry (if necessary)

You need to understand that your eyes will be subject to full analysis because with laser correction there is no place for omissions. Utilising the ultramodern equipment in the Burgas Eye Hospital our ophthalmologists will be able to "see" everything in your eyes.

For those of you who wear contact lenses, you should know that there are some restrictions for wearing them before the examination. Since contact lenses change the shape of the cornea it may lead to incorrect calculations and poor results. So before the laser correction assessment examination you will be asked not to wear contact lenses, as follows:

  • - soft contact lenses - one week before the examination;
  • - rigid contact lenses - two weeks before the examination;
  • - toric contact lenses - one week before the examination.

If, after the examination and discussions with the doctor you want to share your thoughts, opinions, questions, concerns, you can do it in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere.

Step 3: The Big Day

In the day of the laser correction, your doctor will perform a final examination to check for any changes and correlate data with the previously obtained data

All results of numerous studies by portable memory card introduces the topography (a diagnostic apparatus) in itself excimer laser and the latter is programmed to perform laser correction.

During this time, the nurse will invite you into the room for laser correction. For the laser procedure to be performed you will be sited comfortably on a special bed. You will have anaesthesia in the form of eye drops, so you will not feel any pain during treatment. The surgeon will position you under the excimer laser. A special device (tool) will be adjusted to keep your eyelids open during the procedure. The surgeon will ask you to look at the green dot above you. Then follows the actual laser procedure.

If you are doing LASIK, the first step is the formation of a corneal flap. It is folded back to expose the area where the laser pulses will get. Based on the data from your preliminary examination the laser creates a profile that programmes laser beam to "shoot" at specific points. With each "shot" the laser evaporates a tiny amount of tissue from your cornea and thus changes its shape to achieve the desired vision. Then the flap is put back in place. With the SmartSurfACE removal of epithelium and vision correction are carried out by the laser simultaneously in one step.

Schwind Amaris Excimer Laser works at such a great speed that bifocals reduce within 2 seconds by 1 dioptre approximately, i.e. the real laser correction lasts just several seconds.

More on how the Schwind Amaris laser works and why it is a leader among the excimer lasers you can find out here

Upon completion of the laser correction, the doctor will make the last examination of your eyes for the day to make sure the outcome is successful. After the procedure you will be offered a short rest in a comfortable and pleasant atmosphere.

After LASIK you receive special glasses that you may take off the next day. They will prevent any unwanted contact, if you unconsciously try to rub or touch your eyes. You will also receive post-operative conduct instructions.

Restrictions after laser correction (for all types of procedures):

  • - Showering and bathing (but no head and hear) - on the next day;
  • - Complete showering/bathing - the next day, taking care not to wet the eyes.
    It is best if someone helps you to bend your head back and wash your hair;
  • - Washing of the face - on the next day (without the eyes - they must not get wet);
  • - Makeup on the areas around the eyes - after two weeks;
  • - Travelling by plane - after 1 month;
  • - Alcohol - on the next day;
  • - Driving - not before the third day after or in a week, at best;
  • - Light exercise and sports - in one week;
  • - Watching TV, reading, computer - on the next day (without eye strain);
  • - Swimming, contact and power sports - after 1 month.
